ALMOST A WORLD RECORD

On Monday, a temperature of 56.3°C (133.34°F) was recorded in Brisbane’s King George Square. It occurred out in the open at 12:11pm.

The hottest open air temperature ever recorded was 57.8°C (136°F), in Libya in 1922.

Despite Queensland being the skin cancer capital of the world, King George Square’s 2009 redevelopment included virtually no provision for shade cover. After multiple complaints, additional trees were planted not long after the Square was opened, but they will not be large enough to provide shade until 2011.

THIS IS WHY WE CAN’T HAVE NICE THINGS

Hate this country.
